My fascination with the Tarot started at an early age. My mother is a medium and read cards professionally. I wanted my own set to learn and practice. She felt I was too young at 23 to under take such a serious matter. It didn't matter to her that I was already married, we had our own home and our eldest son. She was the boss in psychic matters, and wasn't to be undermined.
So, I borrowed one of her Tarot books and ended up making my own set of Major Arcana. No one was buying Tarot cards for me so I wasn't breaking any rules. We didn't have any money to waste on an experiment that might not work so, I cut up soap powder boxes and drew my pictures and numbers on what was, "The Inside of the box". Surprisingly, they worked very well. My friends would chuckle when they saw the cards, but as soon as I started reading them the chuckling stopped.
One of my younger brothers accidentally told my Mum, (I had given him a reading). When she saw the cards and learned that I had been practicing with them for last six months. She asked me a few questions, then we were off to Manchester Town Center so she could buy me my own set. I choose the same set that she used and 27 years later I still use the same style!
