Sometimes people ask me, how do they know that they will get a good psychic reading? All psychic readers are different much like all vocalists are different. My facination with the Tarot started at an early age. My mother is a medium and read cards professionally. I wanted my own set to learn and practice. She felt I was too young at 23 to under take such a serious matter. It didn't matter to her that I was already married, we had our own home and our eldest son. So, I borrowed one of her Tarot books and ended up making my own set of Major Arcana. No one was buying Tarot cards for me so I wasn't breaking any rules. We didn't have any money to waste on an experiment that might not work so, I cut up soap powder boxes and drew my pictures and numbers on what was, "The Inside of the box". Surprisingly, they worked very well. My friends would chuckle when they saw the cards, but as soon as I started reading them the chuckling stopped.
One of my younger brothers accidently told my Mum, (I had given him a reading). When she saw the cards and learned that I had been practicing with them for last six months. She asked me a few questions, then we were off to Manchester Town Center so she could buy me my own set. I choose the same set that she used and 27 years later I still use the same style!
sets of cards, one having 22 pictures (the major arcana), the Fool, the Magican, the High Priestess, etc. The other set (the minor arcana) has 56 cards with kings, queens, knights, and knaves of wands,swords, cups and coins.
There are many different types of decks and more come to the market every year. The meaning of the cards are usually inspired. The figures and numbers on tarot cards vary greatly between decks. Everyone has their own customs when using the tarot. Here's a few suggestions that you might want to consider
1) Have someone buy your cards for you as a gift.
You can either go along to choose the cards, or trust in the fact that the universe will ensure you get the deck that's meant for you at this point in time.
2) Treat you cards gently, wrap them in silk or velvet when not in use. Then, place them in a nice wooden box.
3) If you allow others to shuffle your cards cleanse the cards after each use by sorting them out back into the original order and placing a crystal on top of them .
